Boston Dynamics grandly launches a more feature-rich robot-Spot
2021-02-21

Boston Dynamics won the competition for its robot dog Spot. Or to be more precise, it is a newly added robotic arm.

The mobile robot company this week announced upgrades and improvements to the Spot series, including a fifth branch, which brings new features to the robot dog launched in 2020.

So far, Spot has been used as an agile corridor monitor that can navigate corridors and stairwells and transmit video to the field control center.

But the new accessories greatly expand Spot's utility. A video posted on the Boston Dynamics website this week showed that the on-site water pump pulled the steam valve stem, twisted and opened the door handle, picked up the clothes scattered on the floor and put them in the laundry container, and dragged them on the road. Move the cement block. It dug a hole, planted a flower, and drew the Boston Dynamics logo with chalk on the sidewalk of the parking lot.

In a scene reminiscent of the first video of Spot dancing released in 2018, three Spots participated in several rounds of impeccable rope skipping, which impressively demonstrated their teamwork spirit.

Boston Dynamics also launched Spot Enterprise, which is an enhancement to the original Spot. It includes the ability to self-charge on the included power base, which also allows Spot to upload data via an Ethernet connection.

Boston Dynamics said in a general blog that the hardware upgrade "provides higher security, communication capabilities, and enables it to operate autonomously on a larger scale."

The upgrade is the Web-based Scout software, which allows operators to control Spot at home or any other remote location. Boston Dynamics says this is particularly beneficial for operations in hazardous environments.

Reconnaissance software allows users to direct Spot to a certain location by simply tapping on the screen. Built-in avoidance measures can ensure that Spot avoids obstacles and travels at the fastest speed.

"Since the first launch of Spot, we have been working closely with customers to determine how the robot can best support their mission-critical applications," said Robert Playter, CEO of Boston Dynamics. "Our customers want to reliably collect data in remote, dangerous and dynamic workplaces."

He said that the purpose of the upgrade is to make regular inspections and remotely perform key inspections easier, thereby improving safety and operability.

An improved 30x optical zoom camera with thermal imaging capabilities means Spot can patrol oil rigs, such as reading gauges, detecting physical abnormalities, checking for leaks, overheating, vibration, or other activities that may pose a danger to inspectors.

Currently, 400 locations are employed worldwide. These robots have been used to reduce the number of frontline workers battling the COVID 19 outbreak in Boston, sheep in New Zealand, monitoring Ford's factories and inspecting construction sites in London.

Spot’s chief engineer, Zack Jackowski, said: “The important equipment owned by customers in many industries is basically unmanned. It may take several hours to send someone to check on relatively simple things.” “What they have to do is to permanently install Spot. Put it there. That way, people who are focused on tracking alarms or performing routine inspections can dial in the robot, stand up, and look around..."

Wuhan Jingtian Electric Co., Ltd. now provides SPOT purchase channels, if you need, you can get in touch with us.

The star robot Niu Benben (Yu Shu A1), who has just stepped on the stage of the Spring Festival Gala, is also very popular these days, and brought a unique and wonderful performance on the same stage with Andy Lau.
